A flushing toilet is a basic necessity that most of us take for granted. But for the 130 children of San Pablo school in the tiny Central American country of Belize, it is a luxury they can only dream of. You can read all about Debbie´s and Mike´s visit below.
EU funding to compensate for the collapse in banana prices is providing a water tower for the village. This means that for the first time the villagers will not have to carry water from the river for washing and cooking.
It also means that the school could have flushing toilets – provided they can raise the hundreds of pounds needed. But the Claretian Mission who run the school do not have sufficient funds.
So, in September, from Monday 19 - Friday 30, Mike plans to walk round as many lakes in the English Lake District as possible, along with other friends and members of the family.
